FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ Brian Rose allowed one run in 4 1-3 innings to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Rose, who's battling for the fifth spot in Boston's starting rotation, lowered his spring ERA to 2.51.

Trailing 1-0 on Rusty Greer's RBI single, the Red Sox scored twice in the third when Jeff Frye singled and Darren Lewis doubled with two outs, setting up a two-run single by Jose Offerman.

Offerman picked up another RBI when he singled in Lewis in the sixth.

John Wetteland, normally a closer, started the game and retired the side on eight pitches in one inning of work.

Kenny Rogers took over and threw 4 2-3 innings, allowing seven runs and walking four.
