JUPITER, Fla. (AP) _ Peter Bergeron hit a two-run double and Chris Widger had a pair of run-scoring singles Friday night, leading the Montreal Expos over the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-0.

Winner Javier Vazquez allowed three hits in five innings, and struck out four.

Loser Todd Ritchie, Pittsburgh's fourth starter, was tagged for seven runs and 10 hits in three innings. Pirates starters had been 5-0 in their previous five games and hadn't allowed a run or a walk in 14 innings.

He threw a called third strike past Lee Stevens to end the first with two on, then gave up four runs and five hits in the second, then three runs and three hits in the third.

Bergeron had a two-run double in the second, and Widger had RBI singles in the second and third.

Ugueth Urbina, Anthony Telford, Steve Kline and Scott Strickland followed Montreal, each pitching an inning.

It was the third shutout this spring for the Expos, who have had the best pitching staff of the major leagues during spring training.

Michael Barrett had a triple and a pair of singles for the Expos. Rondell White, Vladimir Guerrero, Geoff Blum and Widger each had two hits.

Notes: Pittsburgh, which trains in Bradenton, hasn't played on Florida's East Coast since a game against Baltimore at Miami on March 19, 1978. A scheduled game with Philadelphia in Miami on April 3, 1992, was rained out. ... OF Terry Jones was claimed on waivers by the Expos from the New York Yankees. Jones spent parts of the 1998 and 1999 seasons with Montreal but was with Triple-A Ottawa for most of the two years. He signed a minor league contract with Los Angeles in October and was traded to the Yankees in January for a player to be named. ... The Expos optioned RHP J.D. Smart to Ottawa and reassigned RHP Felipe Lira to the minor league camp here.
