BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees will have to wait until Wednesday to raise their 25th World Series banner.

The Yankees postponed today's home opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday night amid forecasts calling for snow, sleet and wind chills in the 20-degree range.

Today's game was rescheduled for Wednesday at 1:05 p.m, while Wednesday's regularly-scheduled 7:05 p.m. game will be made up when the Rangers return to New York in August.

"After closely monitoring projected weather forecasts for Tuesday, we feel it is in the best interest of Yankees' fans to postpone Tuesday's game versus Texas," Yankees general partner Steve Swindal said. "These are not conditions that make playing and watching the game of baseball enjoyable. We look forward to having all the excitement surrounding a Yankees' Opening Day on Wednesday."

Tickets for Tuesday's game will be honored on Wednesday, while tickets for Wednesday's contest will be honored in August.

The one-day delay means that Yankees pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, who revealed on Sunday that he has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, could be part of the Opening-Day ceremonies.

Stottlemyre today begins treament for the disease, which affects the blood plasma, but said on Sunday that he expects to rejoin the club on Wednesday.
