GAME LOG
PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks' struggling bats gave Brian Anderson just enough offense Friday night. Anderson allowed two hits over eight innings and Danny Bautista hit a solo home run to lead the Diamondbacks to a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The NL West-leading Diamondbacks won for the third time in four games and moved two games ahead of the Rockies, who have lost three of four since moving into a first-place tie June 18. Arizona has scored two runs or less in six of its last nine games and is 4-5 in that span. "I really didn't do anything different," Anderson, who gave up seven runs in Colorado on June 17, said. "The execution might have been a little better and I pitched to my strengths." Anderson (7-2) allowed only singles by Jeffrey Hammonds and Larry Walker. Byung-Hyun Kim struck out the side in the ninth for his 10th save in 12 chances. The Diamondbacks used a pair of singles and a fielding error to score an unearned run against Brian Bohanon (3-5) in the sixth inning. Matt Williams and Steve Finley hit one-out singles and Williams advanced to third when Jeffrey Hammonds overran Finley's hit. Greg Colbrunn followed with a fly ball into shallow left. Walker charged the ball but his throw home was high and to the first-base side, allowing Williams to score. "You don't want to challenge Larry Walker too often," Arizona manager Buck Showalter said. "We were lucky to catch him when his arm's not 100 percent." Bautista led off the seventh with his sixth homer, his second since he was acquired from Florida on June 9. Both starters carried no-hitters into the fifth inning. "I just got outpitched," Bohanon said. "I really didn't make many mistakes." Anderson retired 18 of the first 20 batters and faced just one over the minimum through the first six innings. "I was just trying to match him pitch for pitch," Anderson said. "He was keeping our guys off balance out there. I knew my margin for error was small." Hammonds, whose 18-game hitting streak was snapped Thursday, broke up Anderson's no-hitter with one out in the fifth on a sharp bouncer past Williams at third. But Hammonds was picked off first by Anderson. "We needed a big pitching performance from him tonight and we got it," Damian Miller said. Bohanon, who walked the bases loaded in the second, settled down to retire 10 straight batters before Anderson hit a towering two-out double that one-hopped the wall in right-center field. Bohanon walked Tony Womack, but Jay Bell grounded out to third to end the threat. Bohanon allowed two runs -- one earned -- on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out four. "Bohanon was outstanding," Rockies manager Buddy Bell said. "Pitching-wise we're getting exactly what we need. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get to Anderson." Game notesKim has 62 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. ... Miller aided Anderson's cause in the seventh with a sprawling catch of a low Jeff Cirillo pop-up on the grass just behind home plate. ... Anderson has six of Arizona's 13 pickoffs. ... Bohanon hadn't walked more than two batters since an April 20 relief appearance against the Diamondbacks in which he walked six. His four walks were as many as he had allowed in his last four outings combined, a span of 18 1-3 innings. ... The game marked the debut of the Diamondbacks' new mascot, D. Baxter the Bobcat. D. Baxter raced Anderson to the mound at the top of the first and handed him the ball. | ALSO SEE Baseball Scoreboard Colorado Clubhouse Arizona Clubhouse RECAPS Detroit 7 Cleveland 6
