SEATTLE (AP) -- Benji Gil usually contributes with his glove. Now he's doing it with his bat.

Gil matched a career-high with three hits as the Anaheim Angels beat Seattle 3-2 Wednesday night, snapping the Mariners' seven-game winning streak.
"Benji has been hitting the ball well for the last couple of
weeks," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He knows he can help
us offensively. He always plays solid shortstop, but we need him to
come up with hits like that."
Gil singled and scored in the first, tripled in the fifth, and
hit an RBI double in the seventh. He entered the game hitless in
his first 11 at-bats against Seattle this season.
"I didn't even know I was 0-for-11," Gil said. "I'm seeing
the ball well, and today I made good contact."
The Angels got a strong outing from Ken Hill, who allowed four
hits and one run in six innings.
"Ken had a great outing," Scioscia said. "I think his command
was the best of the year. His fastball had a lot of life. This was
a tremendous lift for us."
Hill (4-4) made his first start since May 9. He was placed on
the 15-day disabled list the next day with a strained rib cage
muscle. He was activated Wednesday after starting three times
during a minor league rehab.
"I felt good out there," Hill said. "It was a long time
coming. This season has been a battle."
Hill did some homework to prepare for his return. He watched
tape from when he won 16 games with the Texas Rangers in 1996.
"I just needed to iron out a few things."
Troy Percival pitched the ninth inning for his 19th save in 24
opportunities.
"Troy had a good breaking ball tonight," Scioscia said. "His
command was good. I just hope that he can maintain what he has
going."
The Angels scored two runs in the first against Jamie Moyer.
With one out, Gil singled before Moyer walked Mo Vaughn and Tim
Salmon to load the bases. Gil scored on Garret Anderson's RBI
groundout and Troy Glaus singled in Vaughn to make it 2-0.
Seattle's Edgar Martinez snapped out of an 0-for-15 drought with
a 412-foot solo homer to center field in the fourth. His 22nd home
run cut the Anaheim lead in half.
Moyer (6-3), who allowed five hits and two runs in six innings,
lost for the first time since June 7 at Colorado. He ran into
trouble in the fifth.
"Jamie is a battler," Mariners manager Lou Piniella said. "He
threw a lot of pitches in the first inning, but he came back. He
knows how to pitch. He kept us in it."
With one out, Gil hit a shot to deep-center that sent Mike
Cameron to the wall. Cameron snared the drive over the wall and
flipped it back into play, keeping Gil to a triple.
Moyer loaded the bases by hitting Vaughn and walking Salmon but
escaped by striking out Anderson and Glaus.
"In the fifth I felt I could throw any pitch that I wanted to
make," Moyer said. "I was in total command. Garret put a great
at-bat together. It was a challenge. That is what this game is all
about."
Gil's RBI double in the seventh scored Darin Erstad to give
Anaheim a two-run lead.
Alex Rodriguez hit his 21st homer in the eighth off Shigetoshi
Hasegawa to make it 3-2.
"They held us down tonight," Piniella said.
Game notes Lou Pote was sent to Triple-A Edmonton to make room for Hill. ... Gil had three hits in a game for the second time this season and 11th career. ... It was Martinez's worst hitless streak
of the season. His last hit was a grand slam last Thursday. ... Mark McLemore was caught stealing for an AL-leading ninth time this season. ... Opponents are hitting .359 (14-for-39) against Moyer in
the first inning.
