DENVER (AP) -- Jeff D'Amico felt sluggish during his first appearance at Coors Field, but he kept Todd Helton off the bases and his bullpen did the rest as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies 8-3 Saturday. "I felt kind of dead," D'Amico said. "My body felt fine, but my arm just felt like it didn't have any life in it. I don't know, I just battled." Helton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but saw his major league-leading average drop to .391. Helton, trying to be the first player since Ted Williams in 1941 to hit .400, walked, flied out and grounded out twice in his other at-bats. D'Amico (11-5) scattered eight hits in six innings and won his ninth game in 12 starts since coming off the disabled list July 1. Valerio de los Santos, Juan Acevedo and Curtis Leskanic shut the Rockies out over the last three innings. "When you are facing a guy like that (D'Amico), you have to play perfect," Rockies manager Buddy Bell said. "It didn't happen." The Rockies committed only one error, but mental mistakes on offense and defense killed scoring chances and helped the Brewers put the game out of reach in a four-run ninth. Two Rockies were thrown out stealing, including Neifi Perez, gunned down at home for the third out in the first inning. In the ninth, the Rockies let pinch-hitter Tyler Houston slip through a rundown and steal second. He scored later in the inning. Rookie left-fielder Carlos Mendoza's throwing error let another run score. "That's baseball," said Perez, who went 4-for-4 with two doubles. "Sometimes you play great defense. Sometimes you don't." "I don't think you can say that inning is strange here in Colorado," Brewers manager Davey Lopes said. "Strange things happen here all the time." Todd Hollandsworth hit a solo homer in the sixth inning for Colorado, his 11th of the year and second in two days. That gave the Rockies a short-lived lead. The Brewers loaded the bases in the seventh on a single and two walks before Richie Sexson singled off Mike DeJean (4-2). Colorado starter Brian Bohanon, who allowed only four hits in a complete game victory five days earlier, struggled with his control, giving up five walks and six hits in six innings. But the Rockies turned four double plays, three with Bohanon on the mound. Helton's sacrifice fly in the first scored Juan Pierre to tie the game 1-1. The Brewers scored in the top of the inning when Geoff Jenkins scored on Sexson's single. Colorado took the lead in the fourth when Jeffrey Hammonds came home on Jeff Cirillo's single. The Brewers evened the score in the sixth when Sexson scored on Ron Belliard's two-out single. Sexson went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Game notesMilwaukee OF James Mouton had two bunt singles Friday and tried again Saturday, bunting foul in his first at-bat. ... Brewers C Henry Blanco has thrown out 15 of the last 22 attempted basestealers. ... Colorado OF Larry Walker took batting practice Saturday for the first time since going on the DL Aug. 21. ... Pierre has hit safely in 17 of his first 18 games. ...
