ATLANTA -- Braves outfielder Brian Jordan wasn't in the lineup for Wednesday night's game against Cincinnati because of an ailing right shoulder.
Jordan, whose shoulder has been a nuisance much of the season, became concerned when a diving catch in the first inning of Monday night's 6-3 loss to the Reds caused intense pain. He also sat out Tuesday's game, a 4-2 loss. "After that dive, I couldn't even throw," he said. "I had to just lob the ball. I was hoping they wouldn't hit the ball to me. There was no way I could throw anyone out." Jordan remained in the game but went to the hospital afterward for an MRI, which found the damage wasn't much more serious than he already knew. He will need surgery after the season for a partially torn rotator cuff and frayed labrum. "But I will finish up and do whatever I can do to help the team," said Jordan, listed as day to day. "The cutoff man will just have to come out a little farther in the outfield." Jordan wanted to play Tuesday but doctors advised manager Bobby Cox to give the outfielder some time off. Jordan said the shoulder only bothers him when he throws, so he would be available for pinch hitting. |
