KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals decided to stick with their tried-and-true speed strategy when putting together their American League Division Series roster.
Speedster Terrance Gore got the call for the 25-man roster over Jonny Gomes, who was not included for this round of the playoffs.
Gore joins fellow speed merchant Jarrod Dyson on the roster. The duo wreaked havoc on the bases last October as the Royals reached Game 7 of the World Series before falling to the San Francisco Giants.
Kansas City will have even more speed this year, as outfielder Paulo Orlando is also on the roster.
The Royals rallied for a breathtaking 9-8 victory over the Oakland Athletics in last year's AL wild-card game, tying a postseason record for a single game with seven steals. The Royals stole a record four in the eighth inning alone, part of a total of 14 stolen bases in the 2014 postseason.
None of the Royals speedsters were in the starting lineup for Game 1, though, as Royals manager Ned Yost went with Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain and Alex Rios in the outfield.
"We identified six spots in our lineup that we can run late, eighth or ninth inning, if we are a run down or tied, to put us in scoring position," Yost said. "The one spot that we would [pinch] hit in is if we ran for [Kendrys] Morales and that spot came back around to hit again, so we opted to go for the speed over the bat this round."
