Piazza was bowled over by Bret Boone, who was trying to score from third on a fly ball to center fielder Melvin Mora. Piazza held on to the throw and made the tag for the out before falling backward.

He remained down for a few moments as Boone bent over him. Piazza walked off under his own power and remained in the game.

Piazza missed the final two games of the division playoff against Arizona with a sprained and swollen left thumb. He is 2-for-11 in the three games of the NLCS.
