Indians designate Shaun Marcum

CLEVELAND -- Right-hander Shaun Marcum has been designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians.

Marcum allowed six runs and six hits in two innings during Wednesday's 17-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The short outing forced Indians manager Terry Francona to use eight relief pitchers, including two who are regular outfielders, Ryan Raburn and David Murphy, who pitched in the ninth inning.

Marcum, who has a $1 million salary, was 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA in seven appearances. He held Seattle to two hits in seven shutout innings on June 11.

Cleveland recalled left-hander Kyle Crockett from Columbus on Thursday and selected the contract of right-hander Jeff Manship from the Triple-A club. Infielder Zach Walters was optioned to the Clippers.
