Pirates place Starling Marte on paternity list, call up Alen Hanson

PITTSBURGH -- Left fielder Starling Marte was placed on the paternity list by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday and infielder/outfielder Alen Hanson was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Marte batted .369 on the Pirates' just-completed nine-game homestand to increase his season batting average to .326 in 36 games. He also had three home runs, 14 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

Players on paternity leave can miss up to three days.

Hanson, 23, hit .288 with two homers, 10 RBIs and seven steals in 27 games for Indianapolis. He has yet to appear in a major league game.

The Pirates host the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.
