Reports: Rockies to promote top outfield prospect David Dahl

The Colorado Rockies will promote top outfield prospect David Dahl to the majors Monday before their game against the Baltimore Orioles, according to multiple reports.

Dahl, 22, was a late scratch from Triple-A Albuquerque's lineup Sunday. The Denver Post and MLB.com reported Sunday that the Rockies will designate outfielder Brandon Barnes for assignment to create a roster spot for Dahl, their first-round draft pick in 2012.

The left-handed hitting Dahl recently was rated as the Rockies' second-best prospect and the No. 31 overall prospect by ESPN's Keith Law. Dahl's promotion will come amid widespread speculation that the Rockies might trade Carlos Gonzalez or Charlie Blackmon before the Aug. 1 deadline.

Dahl appeared in 16 games this season with Albuquerque, batting .484 with five home runs and 16 RBIs. He also had a productive 76-game stint this season with Double-A Hartford, where he batted .278 with 13 homers, 45 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.

Dahl, who has a .310 average in parts of six seasons in the minors, missed extended time at Double-A last season after suffering a lacerated spleen.
