Julio Teheran returns with 6 no-hit innings; Mike Foltynewicz to DL

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves placed pitcher Mike Foltynewicz on the 10-day disabled list with triceps tightness and reinstated Julio Teheran to take his place.

After Foltynewicz threw a bullpen session Saturday, the team decided to give him extra rest in hopes of bringing him back next weekend. The right-hander left a start four days ago after pitching five scoreless innings against the New York Mets.

Foltynewicz is off to the best start of his four-year stay with Atlanta, going 5-4 in 14 starts with a 2.16 ERA that ranks third in the National League.

Teheran (5-4) started Sunday against the Padres and picked up the win, pitching six no-hit innings while striking out 11 before being pulled from his first start since coming off the disabled list. At one point he recorded 15 consecutive outs.

Teheran had been sidelined with a sore thumb since allowing four runs in four innings last weekend at San Diego.

His velocity was up Sunday, with his fastball hitting 92 mph. He had been closer to 89 mph before he missed less than two weeks with a sore thumb. The boost in his fastball also helped his offspeed pitches.

"Those 10 days helped me to get everything on track," Teheran said. "It was kind of fun to have my stuff back."

Manager Brian Snitker said he could immediately see the difference in the right-hander's pitchers.

"It was just good to see the life on the fastball again," Snitker said.
