Mets' McNeil suffers fractured wrist on HBP

New York Mets outfielder Jeff McNeil suffered a fractured right wrist after he was drilled by a fastball from Miami Marlins reliever Josh Smith in the sixth inning of Wednesday night's 10-3 win, the team said.

McNeil, who is hitting .318 with 23 homers and 75 RBIs, was pulled from the game and went for X-rays, which revealed a right distal ulnar fracture.

McNeil was 1-for-2 with a run-scoring double before leaving the game. He was replaced by pinch runner Juan Lagares.

The injury brings an end to McNeil's strong all-around campaign this season on the same night the Mets were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with Wednesday's Brewers win in Cincinnati.
