Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr. leaves game after fouling ball off leg

Atlanta Braves All-Star Ronald Acuna Jr. left Friday night's game with the host Washington Nationals in the fourth inning after fouling a ball off his leg near his ankle.

X-rays on Acuna's foot revealed he did not have a fracture, and the Braves said he is day-to-day.

"They told me it hit a nerve or something,'' Braves manager Brian Snitker said after the team's 8-7, extra-inning loss. "When he did it, he couldn't stand on it. When he got upstairs, X-rays were good. It's a heck of a lot better than when it happened. I'm hoping he'll be able to play. He said it wasn't bad right now.''

Acuna fell to the ground and appeared to be in considerable pain, as Snitker and members of the training staff came out to check on him. He was unable to put weight on his left leg as he was helped off the field.

Acuna, the 2018 Rookie of the Year, is batting .286 with 11 home runs and 22 RBIs this season.
