Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell to start first 2 World Series games for Tampa Bay Rays

MLB, Tampa Bay Rays

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Tyler Glasnow will start Tuesday night's World Series opener for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Blake Snell will be on the mound for Game 2 on Wednesday night.

Glasnow, a 27-year-old right-hander, was 5-1 with a 4.08 ERA in 11 starts during the regular season and 2-1 with a 4.66 ERA in four postseason starts. His fastball averaged nearly 98 mph this season.

"They told me I had Game 1 a few hours after [the ALCS], so I didn't celebrate too hard because I have to make sure I'm ready," Glasnow said Monday.

Snell, a 27-year-old left-hander who won the 2018 AL Cy Young Award, was 4-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 11 regular-season starts and 2-2 with a 3.20 ERA in four postseason starts.

Charlie Morton is in line to start Game 3, Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday.

Glasnow will oppose Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in Game 1.

"It's unbelievable. I grew up watching him pitch," Glasnow said.

In other Rays news, center fielder Kevin Kiermaier said he is still dealing with a sore left wrist a week after getting hit by a 99 mph fastball in Game 3 of the AL Championship Series against Houston.

The three-time Gold Glove-winning center fielder returned to the starting lineup in Game 7 on Saturday night.

"After that Game 7, a little sore yesterday and still tight in there. I got drilled, so it didn't feel good by any means, but definitely good enough to go,'' Kiermaier, the longest-tenured Rays player, said Monday before their workout. "I don't think there's any cause or concern moving forward. I hope not. I definitely have progressed as each day has gone by, so I hope that continues to keep going that way.''
