3 MLB games postponed in wake of Kenosha shooting

Three Major League Baseball games were postponed Wednesday as players across the sports landscape reacted in the wake of the weekend shooting by police of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Wisconsin.

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

MLB statement on Brewers-Reds, Padres-Mariners and Giants-Dodgers not playing tonight: “Given the pain in the communities of Wisconsin and beyond following the shooting of Jacob Blake, we respect the decisions of a number of players not to play tonight. Major League Baseball remains united for change in our society and we will be allies in the fight to end racism and injustice.”

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Giants and Dodgers are discussing the possibility of not playing tonight's game from San Francisco in solidarity with those protesting the Jacob Blake shooting, sources said. Gabe Kapler was previously the first major league manager to kneel during the anthem. On the mound for the Dodgers is Clayton Kershaw, who has become very outspoken against racial inequality.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Gabe Kapler, the first major league manager to kneel during the national anthem, provided some passionate opening comments about social injustice earlier today, saying in part: "Some things I think are just bigger than sports, and I don't think it should require athletes needing to boycott playoff games to remind us Black Lives Matter and that police brutality is unacceptable, and that systemic racism needs to be eliminated."
