Kings last beat Cavs in Kansas City

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Only Chris Webber could understand Bob Sura's pain.

Webber, who gained infamy by calling a timeout Michigan didn't have in the closing seconds of the 1993 NCAA title game, scored a season-high 37 points and laughed when Sura did the same thing for Cleveland on Tuesday night as Sacramento won for the first time here with a 111-107 win over the Cavaliers.

"That situation," Webber said. "The same thing that makes you laugh makes you cry."

Webber added 10 rebounds and Jason Williams had 18 points and a career-high 18 assists for Sacramento, which had lost 14 straight in Cleveland. The Kings were still in Kansas City when they beat the Cavs at the old Richfield Coliseum on March 18, 1984.

"Not until after the game did I tell them that," said Kings coach Rick Adelman. "Actually, I was surprised it was that long."

With the Cavs trailing 106-103 with 25 seconds left, Sura was unable to find an open teammate as he attempted to inbound the ball near midcourt. Fearing a five-second violation, he asked for a timeout.

However, the Cavs had just stopped the clock with their final

one after Jon Barry made two free throws.

Sura was called for a technical foul and Barry hit the free throw to put the Kings up 107-103. Barry got fouled by Wesley Person and added two more free throws to ice the win.

"I screwed up, bottom line," Sura said. "I just messed up the play that's all. What else do you want me to say?"

Earlier in the game, Webber had been heckled by a Cavs fans who said, "Call timeout, Chris." So when Sura made his mental blunder, it was Webber's turn to give something back.

As his teammates celebrated Sura's faux pas, Webber turned toward the crowd and in mock surprise, mouthed "Time-out" several times.

"I told those girls in the crowd, 'Thank you'," he said. "They were yelling 'time out, time out, time out.' And their boy called time out. Their own fans lost the game for them."

Webber said Person reminded him of his gaffe moments later.

"He said it was my rule," Webber said. "So it was funny to see that happen but you don't feel good for anybody in that situation."

Sura scored 26 points and Shawn Kemp had 21 for the Cavs, who have lost 10 of 11. Cleveland, which led by 17 points in the first half, has now lost 11 games they've led by at least nine points.

Kemp added 11 rebounds but shot a late airball and missed two key free throws down the stretch. Brevin Knight had 12 assists for Cleveland.

"When things are going tough, sometimes you just have to keep it simple and try not to do too much," said Kemp. "We might be trying to do a little too much right now."

Lawrence Funderburke scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Kings.

Sacramento started the third quarter by outscoring the Cavs 14-4 to take a 71-65 lead, but Cavs rookie guard Andre Miller scored eight points in the final 2:08 as Cleveland caught the Kings at 78-all after three.

The Kings missed 14 of their first 18 shots in the second quarter and fell behind 57-41 with 3:30 left in the half on Sura's 3-point play.

However, Williams, who had several spectacular assists in the first half, made three 3-pointers in a 1:35 span as the Kings went on a 14-2 run to pull within 59-55.
