PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Matt Geiger's layup with 40 seconds left in
the second overtime lifted the Philadelphia 76ers to a 117-115
victory over the Boston Celtics Friday night.
It was the Sixers' fifth straight win, their longest streak of
the season.
Allen Iverson and Eric Snow each 21 points for Philadelphia,
Toni Kukoc added 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Tyrone Hill had 19
points and 10 rebounds.
Paul Pierce, who exchanged heated words with fans behind the
Boston bench in the fourth period, scored 31 points before fouling
out. Antoine Walker added 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Vitaly
Potapenko had a career-high 18 rebounds for the Celtics, who have
lost three in a row.
After Geiger grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to snap a
115-115 score, Dana Barros, Walker and Potapenko all missed for the
Celtics.
A three-point play by Iverson put Philadelphia up 114-113 with
2:41 left in the second overtime. The Celtics failed to score on
their next possession, despite getting three offensive rebounds.
Kevin Ollie's free throw made it 115-113 with 1:15 remaining before
Adrian Griffin's layup tied the score.
Pierce hit a 19-foot jumper with 1.7 seconds left in the first
overtime to put Boston in front 107-105, but Aaron McKie's
18-footer at the buzzer sent the game into the second extra
session.
Theo Ratliff's layup with 18 seconds remaining in regulation
tied the game at 97. Pierce missed a jumper with 0.9 seconds left
and the game went to overtime.
Game notes Philadelphia signed head coach Larry Brown to a new
multiyear contract prior to the game. Last season, Brown, who is
now in his third season with Philadelphia, led the Sixers to their
first playoff berth since 1990-91. ...The 76ers placed starting
forward George Lynch on the injured list with a sprained right
medial collateral ligament and signed Antonio Lang to a 10-day
contract to fill the roster spot. Kukoc took Lynch's spot in the
starting lineup, making his first start as a Sixer. Lynch had been
the only player on the team to start every game this season. ...The
Celtics did not attempt a free throw in the first half.
