OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Allen Iverson paid tribute to Wilt Chamberlain, an unstoppable offensive force, with an impressive scoring show of his own. Iverson had 34 points, including nine in the final 4:20, and the Philadelphia 76ers held off the Golden State Warriors 97-94 Wednesday night on "Wilt Chamberlain night." "I wanted to show some respect for him," said Iverson. "I was glad to be part of this even though I just played in the game." During halftime ceremonies, Chamberlain's No. 13 jersey was retired by the Warriors. The Hall of Famer became the first player in NBA history to have his jersey retired by three teams. The 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers also have retired the jersey of the late basketball great, who died Oct. 12. "He's a great player," Golden State's Jason Caffey said. "He took the game to another level during his time and I think it was a great service that they had for him here tonight. I'm proud to be part of something like that." Matt Geiger and Billy Owens scored 15 points apiece and Tyrone Hill added 10 points for the 76ers, who gave Larry Brown his 700th career NBA coaching victory. "I am just lucky that I am coaching, especially when you see what happened to P.J. (Carlesimo) and Brian Hill and Danny Ainge," Brown said. Vonteego Cummings had 23 points to lead the Warriors, who dropped their second game since Garry St. Jean took over as coach Monday for the fired Carlesimo. Golden State has lost five straight overall. Antawn Jamison added 21 points, John Starks had 17 and Donyell Marshall 15. "It was a fast-paced game," Starks said. "You know what to expect when you go against a guard like Allen Iverson. He is going to get his touches and his shots. He has that scorer's mentality and a good scorer is able to knock down those tough shots." Down by six at the start of the fourth quarter, the Warriors fell behind 84-74 on a basket by Owens before putting together an 8-0 burst, pulling within two on Marshall's short hook shot. Iverson broke their momentum with a twisting layup. Cummings made a 3-pointer but the 76ers made four free throws around Starks' turnover to rebuild the lead to 90-85 with 1:27 left. Again, Cummings hit a 3-pointer, but Iverson answered with a jumper. Jamison then made one of two free throws and Eric Snow made two free throws to put Philadelphia up 94-89 with 36 seconds remaining. Cummings banked in a 3-pointer, his fifth of the game, before Iverson's 20-foot jumper with 12 seconds left secured the 76ers' third straight victory on the road. He banked in the shot with Cummings in his face. "I didn't see the game slipping away from us," Iverson said. "We came out and played hard real hard but they came out and played hard, too. It was that type of a game. They had the crowd with them, but that let us know we had to even play harder." Trailing 55-51, the 76ers took off on a 16-0 run that carried them to a 67-55 lead. Six players scored in the flurry, with Iverson and Snow each putting in two baskets. Jamison finally broke the Warriors scoring drought when he made two free throws with 4:27 left in the third quarter. And Golden State got back in the game as Cummings hit successive 3-pointers and Starks connected from beyond the arc. By the end of the third quarter, the gap was only 76-70. Game notesChris Mills, the Warriors' No. 2 scorer, underwent surgery Wednesday to remove bone spurs in his right ankle and will be sidelined indefinitely. In other moves, the Warriors waived guard Tim Legler and signed guard-forward Jamel Thomas. ... Brown has 76 victories in three years with Philadelphia. ...
