Why the G League has a critical role in NBA roster building

When COVID-19 ravaged NBA rosters, it was the G League that stepped in to help save the 2021-22 season. A league-record 184 players, the majority from the G League, signed hardship exceptions and an additional 24 players, including Lance Stephenson and Stanley Johnson, eventually signed standard 10-day contracts in January that resulted in deals for the remainder of the season.

The 2022-23 season should return to the league's rooted purpose: player development.
