| | HOUSTON -- Rudy Tomjanovich, coach of the Houston Rockets,
received a four-year contract extension Saturday.
Tomjanovich, who was already signed through next season, will
now be under contract until 2005.
"Rudy is not only a great coach but a great person," owner Les
Alexander said in announcing the extension. "We have a young team
that we are striving to build into a championship contender. There
is no doubt in my mind that Rudy is the man to get that job done."
This is Tomjanovich's 30th season with the team, first as a
player, then as assistant coach and the final nine years as head
coach. It's the second longest tenure among current NBA coaches
behind Jerry Sloan, who as coached Utah for 12 years.
He's won two NBA titles and has a 375-254 record in that time
and will coach the U.S. Olympic coach this fall.
"I am so appreciative to Leslie for everything he has done for
me, this organization and this city since he took over the
franchise," Tomjanovich said. "I'm thrilled to have the
opportunity to continue to work with our young players and get the
Rockets back to the top again." | |
