Timberwolves PG Ricky Rubio likely to return after 5-game absence

MINNEAPOLIS -- Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio, who has missed five games with a sprained right elbow, is likely to return Saturday against the LA Clippers, coach Tom Thibodeau said.

Thibodeau told reporters after the team's morning shootaround that Rubio responded well to practice on Friday and was ready to go.

Rubio was injured at Sacramento during the second game of the season. He stayed in the Twin Cities during the team's recent three-game road trip to rehab his injury and was able to practice fully on Friday.

The Timberwolves have missed Rubio's experience and defensive presence during his absence. Rookie Kris Dunn has started, and second-year pro Tyus Jones has been the primary backup. Both have played well at times, but they lack Rubio's composure in critical moments.

The Timberwolves are off to a disappointing 2-5 start and have home games against the Clippers and Lakers this weekend.
