Pau Gasol out indefinitely with stress fracture in left foot

NBA, San Antonio Spurs

Spurs center Pau Gasol missed his 12th consecutive game on Wednesday at the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he will remain out of action indefinitely, according to San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich, who revealed the veteran has a stress fracture in his left foot.

Gasol didn't travel on the team's current road trip.

He had just returned to on-court workouts after spending time wearing a walking boot but was taken out of action once a second opinion revealed the stress fracture. Popovich didn't disclose a timetable for his return.

"They took him off because he got a second opinion that it was as stress fracture," Popovich said. "That's what they told me, so it's not a secret, I guess. So they put him back in the boot."

Gasol, in his 17th campaign, had taken on a reserve role this season and averaged 6.8 points to go with 6.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a member of the team's second unit. Even so, Popovich said the team misses his ability to move the ball.

"The players in the second unit miss him because they had a lot of movement around him. He's a good passer," he said. "He can find them, so him not being there has really affected that second group."
