INDIANAPOLIS -- Celtics forward Gordon Hayward was set to be reevaluated Thursday in Boston after he left Wednesday night's loss to the Indiana Pacers when he was hit in the nose in the fourth quarter.
Hayward drove to the basket when Pacers forward Doug McDermott inadvertently hit him with 6 minutes, 28 seconds left in Boston's 122-117 loss.
Hayward was down on one knee while Boston's medical staff looked at him before he left the court and immediately went to the locker room. The Pacers' medical staff ran tests on Hayward, who said he didn't break his nose and did not have a concussion.
He is listed as probable for Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
"I got hit in the nose [and] couldn't see much," Hayward said. "Felt pretty dizzy. Because of that I had to come back here, go through the concussion thing and make sure everything was OK.
"I don't believe [I'm in the concussion protocol]. Filled out some of the forms, but we'll see how it goes."
The expected extra test in Boston would be to ensure he doesn't have any concussion symptoms.
Hayward finished with nine points, one rebound and three assists in 25 minutes.
"Still have a pretty good headache, but hopefully by [Thursday] it should be good," Hayward said. "We'll see."
Wednesday is the latest in the string of injuries for Hayward since he signed with the Celtics in 2017. On Monday, he returned after missing 13 games due to a broken hand. He ended up missing four weeks instead of the projected six because the plate inserted into his hand sped up the healing process.
Hayward is averaging 18.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season.
