LA Clippers' Kawhi Leonard and Paul George 'feeling well' but no timetable for return

NBA, LA Clippers

Tyronn Lue said Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are "feeling well," but the head coach isn't sure when his two stars will rejoin the LA Clippers.

The Clippers started a six-game trip against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday without Leonard and George, who did not make the flight to Georgia because of health and safety protocols. Starting point guard Patrick Beverley (right knee soreness) also did not travel with the team.

"It is a tough time," Lue said. "But thankfully, those guys are feeling well and they can get better and hopefully join the team soon."

Depending on the extent of the NBA protocols, Leonard or George could potentially join the team on this trip, sources said Monday.

Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard and Terance Mann were inserted into the starting lineup against the Hawks. The Clippers had their seven-game winning streak snapped by Atlanta, 108-99.

Lou Williams said that the Clippers found out they would be without Leonard and George just before the team took off for Atlanta on Monday.

"At this point, we understand that this is the new normal, this is the different dynamic than we are used to," Williams said of playing during a pandemic. "We were told right before we were taking off that those guys would probably join us later on in the trip or maybe not come on the trip."

Jackson finished with 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds on Tuesday. He said Leonard, George and Beverley have been communicating with teammates despite being back in Los Angeles.

"Mentally, they're in a great place," Jackson said. "They are doing all they can to get back as soon as possible... they're making sure they are doing all they can to be the great leaders that they are."
