The assault charges placed on South East Melbourne Phoenix star Mitch Creek in March have been dropped by police.

Creek stepped down from his co-captain role at the Phoenix when he was charged on summons with intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault over an incident with a woman in Melbourne late last year.

The 28-year-old appeared before Sunshine Magistrates Court via a video link on Wednesday, where Magistrate Kay Robertson granted the police application for the charges to be dropped. It's unclear at this stage why they were struck out.

Creek made a return to the NBL on April 1, but was booed by fans every time he touched the ball. He is now able to return to the Phoenix in full capacity, though Basketball Australia is still to determine whether it will take separate action.

"Basketball Australia is aware that the charges levelled against Mitch Creek have been withdrawn," a Basketball Australia statement read.

"The Basketball Australia Integrity Unit will review the matter to determine if any further action is required."

The dropped charges will also likely mean Creek is eligible to be selected to represent Australia at this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.
