WASHINGTON (AP) _ Khalid El-Amin, held without a field goal in the first half, scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half as No. 8 Connecticut defeated Georgetown 92-71 Saturday.

The first half was played at the Hoyas' methodical, defense-orientated pace, the second half at Huskies breakneck speed. Led by El-Amin, UConn scored on its first eight possessions after halftime, starting a 25-13 run to build a 67-47 lead with 12:27 to play.

The Hoyas responded immediately with a 10-0 run, including back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Demetrius Hunter, but the Huskies came back with seven straight points to put the game away.

Connecticut (13-3, 2-2 Big East), rebounding from a home loss to St. John's, stretched its conference-record road winning streak to 13 games. The Huskies visit unbeaten No. 6 Syracuse on Monday.

Kevin Braswell scored 26 points to lead the Hoyas (10-7, 2-4), who have lost four straight to UConn.

Braswell and Anthony Perry did a superb job in the first half on El-Amin, who was 0-for-4 from the field at halftime with just three points off free throws.

But El-Amin, working free off screens, had 13 points in the first 6 1/2 minutes of the second half. El-Amin also didn't have an assist in the first half, but he broke that drought with a bit of flourish _ by banking an alley-oop pass off the backboard to Doug Wrenn for a dunk on a fast break.

El-Amin's only major problem in the second half was a cut on his left wrist, which caused him to constantly rub his hand on his shorts before he was taken out to get a bandage.

The two teams combined for just one field goal over a 7:18 stretch in the first half as Georgetown's stifling defense kept Connecticut's attack in check. But the Hoyas couldn't take advantage because of the poor shooting and ball-handling that has plagued them all season. Georgetown finished with 17 turnovers.

With the score tied 30-30, the Huskies went on a 12-4 run to end the first half. Jake Voskuhl's fast-break dunk, UConn's first field goal in more than seven minutes, made it 33-30, and his 3-point, dunk-and-free-throw play increased the lead to 38-30 a little more than a minute later.

Braswell had Georgetown's only hot hand, going 5-for-8 with 15 points in the first 13 minutes before UConn started double-teaming him at every opportunity. The Hoyas then started going inside to Ruben Boumtje Boumtje in the second half, and Braswell went more than 14 minutes without a field goal.

With neither defense allowing a decent look at the basket the first half, the scoreboard kept moving because both teams were making free throws. The Huskies made 15 in a row in the first half, allowing them to make up a 5-point deficit without scoring a field goal. The team shot a combined 30-for-34 from the line in the first half.

Countering Georgetown's rebounding prowess, Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun shook up his lineup by moving Kevin Freeman to power forward and giving Wrenn his first start of the season.
