COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- Texas A&M finally found a ranked team it could beat.

Bernard King scored 17 points, including two clinching free throws with nine seconds left, as the Aggies defeated No. 12 Oklahoma State 64-59 for their first victory over a ranked team in 13 years.

"They stuck around and when the momentum changed, they bit us like a wounded dog," Cowboys guard Glendon Alexander said.

Fans stormed the court and confetti streamed down onto the court -- a new feature after each Aggie home victory. The Cowboys were the fourth ranked team the Aggies have faced in their last five games.

It was the Aggies' first victory over a ranked team since the first round of the Southwest Conference tournament in 1987 when they beat No. 15 Texas Christian in the first round.

"It's been a brutal schedule so far," A&M coach Melvin Watkins said. "We've grown up some. We've had a chance to get better and we have. This is special because it's a conference game and it's against a ranked team."

The Aggies (6-10, 2-3 in Big 12) had lost 29 straight games to ranked teams but they never backed off from the Cowboys (14-2, 3-1). Texas A&M took the lead for good at 58-57 with 2:37 to play on two free throws by Aaron Jack.

Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton thought a tough victory over Texas on Wednesday might have affected his team.

"Maybe our players didn't have the respect for Texas A&M that our coaching staff had," Sutton said. "We had a chance to break the game in the second half but just couldn't break through."

Oklahoma State took a 38-35 halftime lead and they scored the first five points of the second half before the Aggies went on a 13-2 run that gave them a 48-45 lead with 13:05 left in the game.

The Cowboys went scoreless for 6:25 during the run.

"They are a better ball club than they were last year," Sutton said. "In the second half, they out hustled us on the rebounds.

After their lull, the Cowboys rallied to a 55-50 lead with 5:17 to go but the Aggies closed out with a 14-4 run led by Jack and Jamaal Gilchrist, who each had five points in the drive.

When the Aggies were behind 55-50, Watkins called a timeout and the Aggies responded.

"That's when we said 'not this night,'" King said. "We had great coaching and I think we matured a lot. Playing those ranked teams previously helped us a lot."

Leading 62-59, King hit two free throws and the Aggies ran out the clock. The Aggies hit only 48 percent of their free throws but they made 10 of their last 12 to secure the victory.

Desmond Mason led the Cowboys with 19 points and Fredrik Jonzen had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Doug Gottlieb, who leads the nation in assists, had two points and 13 assists.

The Aggies traded leads with the Cowboys throughout the opening period.

A&M had five-point leads three times in the first half, the last at 31-26 with 6:32 to go but the Cowboys went on a 12-4 run to gave the halftime lead. Glendon Alexander have five points in the run.

The Cowboys had won four in a row since their only previous loss of the season, to Louisiana State on Dec. 30.

The victory meant a lot to A&M senior Jerald Brown.

"That makes up for years of close ones that got away," he said. "That makes up for a lot of frustration. That was fun."
