STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Five minutes had passed, and then six, and Stanford still had not allowed a basket. Fans were mocking beleaguered Washington State with chants of "You've Got No Points!"

The Cougars finally scored 6:12 into the game against No. 2 Stanford, but it was already too late. The Cardinal had built an 11-0 lead, which grew to 22-3 and eventually turned into a 63-38 victory Saturday.

Jason Collins
Stanford's Jason Collins scores two of his 14 points on Saturday.
Jason Collins had 14 points and Mark Madsen became the 27th Stanford player with 1,000 career points as the Cardinal (17-1, 6-1 Pac-10) sent the Cougars (5-12, 0-8) to their ninth straight loss -- their longest skid since an 18-game losing streak at the end of the 1989-90 season.

"Stanford's the real deal," Washington State coach Paul Graham said. "They're big, they're strong, they're quick on the perimeter, they're well coached and they're deep. I don't see any weaknesses at all."

Casey Jacobsen and Jarron Collins each added 10 points for Stanford, which held the Cougars to 26 percent shooting.

"It's a hard situation for Washington State coming in here," Stanford coach Mike Montgomery said. "They have no low-post guys, no back-to-the-basket guys."

Chris Crosby had 16 points for the Cougars, who lost by a big margin for the second straight season at Stanford. Washington State was beaten 94-45 at Maples Pavilion last season.

Crosby moved past Vince Hanson into 14th place on the Washington State career scoring list with 1,167 points.

Washington State reserve forward Tyrone Evans left the game late in the first half after reinjuring his left knee. Evans, who missed three games earlier this season due to a sprained knee, apparently sprained the knee again.

The Cougars missed their first five shots of the game, and the Cardinal were up by 11 points by the time Eddie Miller hit a jumper with 13:48 left in the first half. Washington State then missed its next six shots, and Stanford built its 22-3 lead.

A 10-2 run pulled the Cougars within 24-13 with 5:50 left in the first half, but Ryan Mendez hit a 3-pointer to begin a 10-0 Stanford run and Washington State never got close again.

Stanford led 36-16 at halftime and built its margin to 23 points with 8:04 left in the second half on a three-point play by Jason Collins. The lead reached 26 points in the closing minutes.

Madsen, who had just five points in the game, scored his 1,000th point on a dunk 44 seconds into the second half.

Stanford, which won 92-62 over Washington on Thursday night, faces a much more difficult task next weekend when it travels to Los Angeles for games against UCLA and Southern California -- both of which have been ranked this season.

"There's absolutely no relevance between these two teams (Washington and Washington State) and the next two teams on our schedule," Montgomery said. "But we should not be tired going into next weekend at all. Everyone has played, and everyone has played within himself the last two games."
