FRESNO, Calif. (AP) _ Tezale Archie scored with six-tenths of a second left in the game to give Pepperdine a 70-68 victory over Fresno State on Tuesday.

Fresno State (1-1) tied the game with eight seconds left as Melvin Ely made one of two free throws. Ely then blocked Archie's final shot but was called for goaltending.

Fresno, playing without returning top scorer Courtney Alexander, had 24 turnovers in the loss.

Pepperdine rallied from a 40-37 halftime deficit to take a 60-57 lead with just over five minutes left in the game. But Fresno came back with an 8-0 run to lead 65-60 with 3:25.

After a basket by Nick Shepherd cut the margin to three points, Ely was hit with a technical foul, and Pepperdine ran off four more unanswered points. Larry Abney's free throws gave Fresno State the lead again with 2:15 remaining but Armstrong countered with a short jumper to put Pepperdine up 68-67.

Pepperdine (2-0) was led by Brandon Armstrong with 17 and Archie with 13.

Larry Abney led Fresno State with 16 points and Demetrius Porter added 15.
