Purdue highlight reel

Purdue Boilermakers
RECORD: 24-10 COACH: Gene Keady | SEASON RESULTS | SEASON STATS
OUTLOOK
  • First round: Defeated Dayton, 62-61
  • Second round: Defeated Oklahoma, 66-62
  • Sweet 16: Defeated Gonzaga, 75-66
  • Elite Eight: Lost to Wisconsin, 64-60

Purdue is a typical Gene Keady-coached team. The Boilermakers play hard at all the positions and always defend well.

Let the experts at Coach's Edge get you ready for the NCAA Tournament with an inside look at the Purdue playbook.
  • Play 1 | Play 2
  • Brian Cardinal leads them -- period. He is the heart and soul of the team. He's not a great scorer. He's a player you would like to hate as the opposition, but love him as a teammate. Jaraan Cornell, a left-handed shooter, has had a disappointing year for them. He hasn't shot the ball well, and that could be a problem for them in the tournament.

Carson Cunningham has adapted to Keady's system. He's kind of a converted scorer, but is good at directing traffic. Sophomore Rodney Smith has been a pleasant surprise. He may be one of the few players Purdue has who can beat his man off the dribble.

The Boilermakers are consistent in their effort, but they don't do anything great. They just play hard and make up for whatever their deficiences may be, one being the lack of a creator. They are better scoring in the post than they are shooting from the perimeter.

I don't think many teams will like to play the Boilermakers because they make teams play ugly. -- Quinn Buckner, ESPN
