| | ARLINGTON, Va. -- Arizona jumped to second in the latest ESPN/USA Today coaches' basketball poll released Sunday night as Cincinnati remained atop the rankings for the third straight week.
The Wildcats (6-0) picked up three first-place votes and moved
from fourth after beating Brigham Young and ranked foe Texas,
receiving 719 points from a panel of Division I coaches.
Cincinnati (5-0) held off Gonzaga in its only game and remained
in control of the poll. The Bearcats received 26 first-place
votes and 764 points.
Idle Stanford (5-0) held third with the last two first-place
votes and 707 points. Kansas (6-0) and Michigan State (6-1),
who face each other Tuesday in the Great Eight Classic, both
climbed two rungs and complete the top five.
Connecticut (5-1) also moved two spots to sixth. North Carolina
(5-1) lost to Michigan State and fell five notches to seventh.
Auburn (4-1) won twice but dropped three spots to eighth and
Syracuse (6-0), which beat three unimposing foes, jumped five
spots to ninth. Florida (5-1) held 10th.
UCLA (3-0) is 11th, followed by Texas (4-1), Duke (5-2), Indiana
(4-0), Tennessee (6-0), Ohio State (2-1), Oklahoma State (6-0),
Temple (2-2), Maryland (4-2) and DePaul (4-2).
Indiana climbed 10 notches after wins over Notre Dame and
ranked rival Kentucky. Temple tumbled nine spots after a loss
to Wake Forest (5-0), which debuted this week at No. 21.
Kentucky (3-3) has lost three straight games for the first time
in 10 years and fell 10 spots to 22nd. Purdue (3-2), Illinois (2-2) and Utah (3-2) complete the poll. | |
