ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) _ Phillip Rogers ran for 80 yards and a career-high three touchdowns Saturday as No. 10 Georgia Tech beat Navy 49-14 Saturday, enabling coach George O'Leary to enjoy his view from the press box.

The Yellow Jackets (1-0) reeled off 28 straight points after Navy (0-1) forged an early 7-7 tie. Rogers ran for 72 yards and two scores to help Georgia Tech take a 28-7 halftime lead.

O'Leary was forced to watch the game from the press box after being penalized by the NCAA in April for making an improper loan to former running back C.J. Williams. It wasn't the vantage point he preferred, but the Yellow Jackets fared well against a porous Navy defense without him on the sideline.

At least O'Leary stayed dry; a hard rain late in the third quarter drenched everyone on the field and the 30,311 in attendance.

Joe Hamilton completed 12 of 17 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets won a seventh straight road game, their longest streak since an eight-game run from 1950-52.

Rogers, who had never scored more than one touchdown in a game, became the 27th player in school history to accumulate more than 1,000 yards rushing. The senior has 1,034 yards on the ground.

A 10-yard TD run by Hamilton made it 14-7 late in the first quarter. Hamilton then hit Kerry Watkins on a 6-yard scoring pass and Rogers' second touchdown run, from the 1, put the Yellow Jackets up by 21 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same. Rogers capped a 75-yard drive by busting in from the 2 with 6:30 left in the third quarter.

Navy finally got its offense back in working order at that point, moving 90 yards in 11 plays in a drive capped by quarterback Brian Broadwater's 1-yard touchdown run on fourth down.

Hamilton closed out his afternoon by throwing a 40-yard touchdown pass to Joe Burns to make it 42-14 with 12:24 left.

Tech opened the game with a 10-play drive capped by Rogers' 1-yard touchdown run. Navy responded with a touchdown drive of its own, covering 77 yards in eight plays and drawing even on a 2-yard TD run by Dre Brittingham.

That turned out to be the highlight for the Midshipmen, who managed only three first downs the rest of the first half.
