WASHINGTON (AP) _ Montrell Coley scored two touchdowns for Hampton (2-0, 2-0 MEAC) as the Pirates defeated Howard (0-2, 0-1 MEAC), 28-27, in the sixth annual Greater Washington Urban League football classic Saturday.

Hampton's special team unit deserved the credit for this win. The Pirates blocked two extra-point attempts by Howard kicker Charles Card.

The Bison had a chance to tie the score and send the game into overtime after Jermaine Hutchinson carried for his fourth touchdown of the game with 3 minutes, 24 seconds remaining. Michael Bland blocked Card's kick and Montee Foote blocked Card's extra-point attempt after Howard's first touchdown of the game.

Coley scored the winning touchdown for the Pirates and capped a 55-yard, 10-play drive by Hampton.

Howard tried mightily to get its passing game going. In the first quarter, quarterback Bobby Townsend attempted 20 passes; only six were complete. The Bison eventually turned to Hutchinson, who rushed for 152 yards on 23 carries. He had touchdown runs of 4, 4, 22 and 2 yards.

Coley finished with 20 carries for 66 yards. Michael Jones, who scored Hampton's first touchdown on a 3-yard carry, led the Pirates with 14 carries for 92 yards.

Howard's first touchdown was set up by a 39-yard punt return by freshman Shaun Miller. Hutchinson carried the ball four yards for the touchdown to give Howard a 6-0 lead.

Hampton took the lead on its ensuing possession. The Pirates went 65 yards in 1 minute, 24 seconds, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Michael Jones. Acie Wyatt's kick put Hampton ahead, 7-6.
