ORONO, Maine (AP) _ Two touchdown runs by Vaughn Sanders led the Hofstra Flying Dutchmen to a 27-19 win over the Maine Black Bears on Saturday. Hofstra (2-0) took the lead over Maine (0-2) on a 17-yard run by Sanders after the Flying Dutchmen recovered a fumbled punt on the Maine 17-yard line with 2:51 remaining in the fourth. The Black Bears were in field goal range after a Mike Harvey interception in the middle of the fourth quarter, but Todd Jagoutz missed a 39-yard field goal attempt. Hofstra put together a drive of 54 yards on four plays capped off by a 9-yeard touchdown run by Sanders with 32 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give Hofstra a 20-19 lead. Maine took the lead 19-13 with 9:58 remaining in the third quarter on a Royston English run of 9 yards. With 32 secnds remaining in the half Giovanni Carmazzi had a 7-yard touchdown run, tying it 13-13 at the half. English finished the game with 154 yards on 39 carries and led Maine scoring with three touchdown runs. This was the second career 100-yard rushing game for English.
