JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) _ Freshman halfback Kevin Miles ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to help St. Peter's College snap a 14-game losing streak with a 33-22 win over Canisus. Miles carried 20 times and scored the game's first two touchdowns. St. Peter's freshmen scored 24 of the team's 33 points, helping the Peacocks (1-1) win their first game since October 1997. Freshman fullback Terry Murphy ran 100 yards and scored on a 4-yard run with 1:45 left in the game, and freshman Jon Ambrose scored on a 77-yard punt return with 31 seconds left in the first half to put St. Peter's up 27-0. After a scoreless third quarter, Golden Griffins quarterback Mark Nachreiner led a fourth-quarter comeback in which he threw for two touchdowns. The sophomore quarterback had sat out in the first half. While St. Peter's netted 258 yards on 57 carries, the Peacocks held Canisius (1-1) to only 29 yards on 24 carries. This was the first win for St. Peter's in their seven game all-time series with Canisius.
Freshman fullback Terry Murphy ran 100 yards and scored on a 4-yard run with 1:45 left in the game.
