PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Cedric Washington rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns as undefeated Boston College added to Rutgers' growing woes, defeating the winless Scarlet Knights 27-7 on Saturday.

Tim Hasselbeck threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to DuJuan Daniels and John Matich kicked two field goals as Boston College (3-0, 1-0 Big East) beat Rutgers (0-3, 0-1) for the fifth straight time.

Washington's TD runs covered 8 and 12 yards and cornerback Jonathan Ordway had two of the Eagles' three interceptions. Boston College outgained Rutgers 427-307 and held the ball for 34 minutes, 36 seconds.

Mike McMahon threw a 56-yard scoring pass to Errol Johnson for the Scarlet Knights, who played without starting halfback Jacki Crooks. He sat out a one-game suspension for reportedly missing a practice last week.

The 3-0 start is the second straight for Boston College, which finished 4-7 last year. This marks the second time in three years Rutgers has opened the season with three losses.

The Scarlet Knights, winless two years ago, are in danger of losing their first six this season with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia coming up next. Rutgers has not led once this season.

Boston College intercepted McMahon's passes on the first two series. Linebacker Scott Bradley's interception on the opening series set up Matich from 31 yards for a 3-0 lead with 9:43 left in the first quarter.

Washington extended the lead to 10-0 midway through the second quarter, ripping off runs of 11, 17 and 8 yards to cap an 11-play, 87-yard march.

Matich extended the lead to 13-0, kicking a 35-yard field goal on the opening possession of the second half. The kick came after Rutgers declined a third-down holding penalty that would have pushed the ball back 10 yards.

McMahon, who was 16 of 32 for 228 yards, and Johnson combined on a crossing pattern just 1:33 later. The receiver beat safety George White and raced the final 35 yards for the score.

It took Boston College three plays to retaliate. Hasselback hit Ryan Burch for 15 yards, Dedrick Dewalt for 38 and then found Daniels for the score, completing a 74-yard blitz of Rutgers' defense. Hasselbeck finished 17 of 22 for 168 yards.

Steve Barone missed a 37-yard field goal on Rutgers next series and the Scarlet Knights didn't threaten again.

Washington added a 12-yard TD run with 8:46 to play, capping an eight-play, 51-yard drive.
