HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) _ Giovanni Carmozzi threw for one touchdown and ran for another as Hofstra routed Cal Poly SLO 38-3 Saturday. Carmozzi, who completed 20 of 34 passes for 276 yards, rushed for 29 yards on nine carries, including a one-yard TD. Hofstra, which improved to 4-0, has won seven straight over two seasons. Hofstra's Vaughn Sanders rushed for 94 yards on 15 carries with one score to boost his career total to 2,418 yards, second in school history to Bill Sanford's 2,503. Andy Jepson was just 11-for-25 for 55 yards and two interceptions for the Mustangs (1-2). Rob Levitas intercepted Jepson at Cal Poly SLO's 29-yard line, and Carmozzi scored from the 1 four plays later to give Hofstra a 7-0 lead. Doug Shanahan's interception set up Jimmy Jones' 9-yard run, which put the Flying Dutchmen ahead 14-0 midway through the first quarter. Sanders' 6-yard TD run late in the second quarter made it 24-3, and just 25 seconds later, Pat Dorvelus recovered a fumble and returned it 27 yards for a 31-3 advantage. Carmozzi hit Charles Adams with a 10-yard TD pass early in the third quarter to conclude the scoring.
