BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Quinn Gray's 25-yard touchdown pass to Demetris Bendross in the third overtime gave Florida A&M the lead and an interception by Trabian Turner preserved it as the Rattlers beat Howard 40-34 Saturday. Gray, who replaced struggling starter JaJuan Seider midway through the third quarter, found Bendross alone down the left sideline for the decisive score on the second play of the third overtime. A 2-point conversion pass to Jacquay Nunnally failed. Howard (2-3, 1-2 MEAC) had a chance to win on the ensuing series, but Turner stepped in front of Bison receiver Troy Hart at the goal line and intercepted Roy Anderson's pass on third-and-8 from the Rattlers' 23. Turner's second interception of the year assured Florida A&M (4-2, 4-0) of its 11th consecutive MEAC victory and its 19th win in 22 games against Howard. In the first extra session, Rattlers running back Kevin Williams scored on a 2-yard run before Howard tied it on Jermaine Hutchinson's 12-yard scoring run. Howard's Charles Card, whose career-high 50-yard field goal gave the Bison a 24-21 lead with 6:33 left in regulation, hit a 32-yarder in the second overtime. But Florida A&M's Jeremy Edwards, who missed three first-half field goals, tied it with a 29-yard kick. Anderson, who was 5-for-15, replaced starter Bobby Townsend in the third period after Townsend sprained his right foot. However, Anderson directed a drive that culminated in a 17-yard scoring pass to Jevonta Philpot for a 21-21 tie 11 seconds into the fourth quarter. Card's 50-yard field goal gave the Bison the lead midway through the fourth period, but Edwards nailed a 37-yarder with three seconds left to force overtime. Williams gained 116 yards on 18 carries for the Rattlers, who turned the ball over six times and were sacked six times. Quinn was 11-for-26 for 170 yards in relief of Seider, who completed only seven of 20 attempts.
