COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- Kansas does a pretty good job of scaring Texas A&M.

For the second straight year, the Aggies (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) had to charge from behind as quarterback Randy McCown rallied the Aggies to 21 points over a 1:50 span of the second and third quarters for a 34-17 victory Saturday.

	Chris Cole and the Aggies stayed a step ahead of Brenden Rineer and Kansas after coming back from an early10-0 deficit.

"We knew if we could get a feel for the game, the momentum would carry us into the end zone," McCown said. "We wanted to establish the long ball and we were able to do that."

McCown took advantage of two Jayhawks mistakes, a roughing-the-kicker penalty and a fumble, to complete two touchdown passes and run for a third score in the 21-point surge.

McCown was 21-of-30 for 362 yards, with one interception. McCown also led the Aggies on a late 75-yard drive that rallied the Aggies to a 24-21 victory over the Jayhawks last season.

The Aggies (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) needed another charge to beat the 31-point underdog Jayhawks.

Kansas (2-5, 0-3) had a 10-3 lead and the Aggies were facing fourth down at their 17 with less than two minutes left in the first half when disaster struck the Jayhawks.

A&M punter Shane Lechler took a low snap and got off a wobbly kick but a roughing call against Kansas' Matt Jordan gave A&M new life at its 32.

Jordan said he didn't touch the punter.

"I thought I had the kick blocked and then someone reached out and grabbed me," Jordan said. "I saw the flag and I thought they called holding."

On the first play after the penalty, McCown hit Chris Taylor with a 41-yard pass to the Kansas 27. Three plays later, he hit Leroy Hodge with a perfectly lofted pass into the back corner of the end zone with 52 seconds left in the half and a 10-10 deadlock.

"We watched some films and thought we could get to their punter," Allen said. "We almost got there but that's the way it goes sometimes."

Kansas' Mitch Bowles fumbled the kickoff and A&M's Jason Webster recovered at the Kansas 37. On the third play, McCown tried to pass right and then scrambled back to the left and tip-toed the final five yards down the sideline with 23 seconds left in the half.

"We were thinking we'd go in at halftime tied but Bowles fumbled and their offense made a great play at the end of the half," Allen said. "We are playing a lot harder the last two weeks than earlier. I'm proud of the way we're playing hard."

The Aggies made it 24-10 on the second play of the third quarter when McCown connected with Chris Taylor for a 78-yard touchdown pass with 14:02 to go in the third quarter.

After a scoreless first quarter in which each team missed a field goal, the Jayhawks took a 10-0 lead on a 36-yard field goal by Joe Garcia and 1-yard touchdown run by Moran Norris set up by McCown's fumble at the Aggies 46. Tackle Nate Dwyer recovered the fumble.

Kansas safety Carl Nesmith had two interceptions, returning one 30 yards to set up a 26-yard touchdown pass from Dylen Smith to Sean McDermott with 11:10 left in the third quarter.

Terence Kitchens kicked his second field goal, a 35-yarder with 5:24 to go in the third, and Ja'Mar Toombs had an 8-yard TD run with 9:44 left in the game.

After a slow start, the Aggies ended up with 522 yards.

"You just have to keep playing and you have to sell the kids that sometimes you might just be a few plays away from something good happening," A&M coach R.C. Slocum said.
