NORFOLK, Va. (AP) _ Roy Anderson hit Tauric Rice with a 25-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds remaining Saturday to lead Howard past Norfolk State 29-23.

Anderson and Bobby Townsend combined for 316 passing yards for Howard (3-5, 2-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Anderson threw for three touchdowns, and neither quarterback threw an interception.

The game-winning pass capped a 10-play, 64-yard scoring drive that began after the Spartans tied the score at 23 on a 9-yard Dwayne Green TD reception followed by a two-point conversion.

Howard built a 16-0 lead just before halftime on a 19-yard pass from Anderson to Elijah Thurmon, but Norfolk State (1-7, 0-6) blocked the conversion attempt and returned it for a safety to get on the board.

Angelo Todd led Norfolk State with 76 rushing yards on 18 carries.
