HAMPTON, Va. (AP) _ Derric McIlwain rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns and Roy Johnson threw two TD passes Saturday as Hampton beat South Carolina State 39-27.

McIlwain had an 8-yard TD run in the third quarter and a 2-yard TD run early in the fourth for Hampton (6-3, 4-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Johnson, 13-of-22, hit Zuriel Smith with an 11-yard TD pass in the second quarter and connected with Smith again in the fourth on a 16-yard TD pass.

Derek O'Neal rushed for 42 yards and three touchdowns for South Carolina State, which had 276 offensive yards compared too Hampton's 451.

Craig James, 18-of-31, passed for 256 yards and a touchdown for South Carolina State (3-4, 1-3).

Montrell Coley rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown for Hampton.
