STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) _ Chris Chambers kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired Saturday and Georgia Southern edged Furman 41-38 in a Southern Conference thriller. Georgia Southern (8-2, 7-1 conference) led 28-to-7 at the half, but Furman (7-2, 5-1) scored 31 points in the second half and tied the game at 38-38 when Justin Hill hit Bryant Huguley down the sideline for a 34-yard score with 1:43 remaining. On the next drive, Eagles quarterback Greg Hill ran the ball seven times for 65 yards to set up Chambers winning kick. Hill rushed for a total of 219 yards on 24 carries, including a 41-yard TD run. Georgia Southern's Adrian Peterson carried the ball 28 times for 197 yards and three touchdowns, including one for 66 yards to open the scoring at 10:24 of the first quarter. For Furman, Justin Hill completed 14-of-25 passes for 240 yards and two TDs. In addition to the late-game tying touchdown, Hill also hit Trent Sansbury with a 7-yard score to tie it at 7-7 a minute into the second quarter. With the win, the Eagles clinched at least a three-way tie for the Southern Conference championship.
