DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) _ Eric Ferguson rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown, becoming Davidson's all-time scoring leader, in a 38-22 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday.

The victory enabled the Wildcats (8-3) to tie school records for season victories, consecutive victories in a season (7) and most wins by a senior class (25).

Ferguson finished his career with 202 points, the only player to ever score 200 points at Davidson, and tied a school record held by Ray Sinclair for career touchdowns (33).

Ferguson's touchdown came on a 37-yard run with 8:47 left in the first quarter.

The Wildcat defense, which intercepted Austin Peay quarterback Brian Baker five times and allowed only 31 yards rushing, gave Davidson some breathing room with two touchdowns.

Defensive end Blake McNaughton gave Davidson a 14-0 lead when he recovered a bad snap in the endzone, and linebacker Jim Carney picked off a Baker pass and returned it 91 yards in the second quarter.

Baker connected with Tulsa Payette on scoring passes of 4 and 12 yards to bring the Governors to within 25-15, but Daniel Hanks, who kicked a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter, added a 36-yarder with 3:10 left in the third period. Shaun Tyrance then hit Mike Tarver with a 76-yard scoring pass with 22 seconds left in the quarter.

Baker threw his third touchdown pass, of 51 yards, to Thomas James with 7:35 left in the game, but Austin Peay failed to score again.

Hanks sealed the victory with a 26-yard field goal with 2:04 remaining.

Baker completed 27 of 55 passes for 354 yards.
