NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) _ KaRon Coleman ran for 164 yards and three second-half touchdowns that lifted Stephen F. Austin past Northwestern State, 29-14, in a Southland Football League game Saturday. The outcome left Stephen F. Austin at 8-3 overall, 6-1 in the conference and still in hunt for an at-large I-AA playoff bid. Northwestern, the Southland's two-time defending champion, finished its season at 4-7, 3-4. A 10-yard touchdown run by Coleman early in the third period erased Northwestern's 14-9 halftime lead. Coleman's touchdown runs of 1 and 10 yards in the game's final 4:48, along with a second-half shutout by the Lumberjacks, dashed Northwestern's comeback hopes. The lead changed hands three times in the first half with SFA seizing an early 3-0 lead on a 43-yard field goal by Ted Woodard. Northwestern struck back with a 91-yard touchdown run by Tony Taylor, but the Lumberjacks regained the lead at 9-7 on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Wes Pate to Isiah Stoker. A 38-yard touchdown pass from Aubrey Jones to Chris Pritchett gave Northwestern its 14-9 halftime lead. Taylor anchored Northwestern's offense, carrying 21 times for 152 yards. The output gave Taylor, a sophomore, the Southland's rushing title with 1,441 yards on 263 carries and 16 touchdowns.
