Janikowski faces a bribery charge for allegedly offering a police officer $300 to release his roommate.

Neither Janikowski, nor his lawyer -- Tallahassee-based attorney Steve Dobson -- were in court at Wednesday's hearing. Dobson has entered an innocent plea on Janikowski's behalf.

The charge is a third-degree felony, and Janikowski, a native of Poland, could face deportation if convicted. If found guilty, he also faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Janikowski reportedly rejected a plea bargain deal, and Leon County Circuit Judge George S. Reynolds III set a May 3 case management conference to discuss the case with lawyers on both sides.

The charges stem from a Jan. 24 incident at The Grove nightclub in Tallahassee, where, according to police, Janikowski offered cash to an off-duty officer so his roommate would be released from custody. The roommate, Aaron Silverman, had been refused service at the club and was arrested for trespassing when he refused to leave.

The two-time All-American kicked 50 field goals the past two seasons, and many of his kickoffs flew through the end zone. He is the only current player on a recently selected college team of the century.

Janikowski has been projected as high as a late first-round NFL draft pick, unusually high for a kicker.
