COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- After struggling early, Iowa State (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, No. 10 AP) used a balanced scoring attack and scrappy effort in a 79-67 victory over Missouri on Wednesday night.

Stacy Frese scored 22 points, and Angie Welle and Megan Taylor added 18 each for the Cyclones, who extended their winning streak to six games, and snapped a nine-game streak for the Tigers (10-1, 0-1).

Frese, Welle and Taylor combined for 38 of Iowa State's 52 second-half points and the Cyclones (10-2, 2-0 Big 12) dominated the backboards, outrebounding the Tigers 45 to 25.

"I'm usually not at a loss for words," Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. "But it's hard for me to describe how proud I am of their effort, and what they fought through to win this game."

Iowa State was unable to handle Missouri's pressure defense early.

The Cyclones were forced into 10 first-half turnovers, and shot only 34 percent from the field and 1-for-10 from 3-point range.

"I saw the paper today, and organized chaos is what they said (about Missouri's defense)," Welle said. "That's exactly what it is."

Iowa State led 27-26 at halftime, but there were five lead changes and five ties in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Iowa State then scored 13 straight points to take the lead and hold off Missouri.

The Cyclones shot 72 percent from the field in the second half, made 13-of-15 free throws and Missouri was unable to keep pace.

"We could feel the momentum shift," Missouri's Julie Helm said. "And instead of doing something about it, we rode it out, and you can't afford to do it against them."

Amanda Lassiter scored a career-high 22 points for Missouri, with 17 in the second half. Helm added 13 for the Tigers.

Missouri shot 55 percent from the field in the second half, but had only seven offensive rebounds.

"There's no way our big kids should have the lack of rebounds that they did," Missouri coach Cindy Stein said. "Iowa State's big kids had more rebounds than our whole team."
