PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Shawnetta Stewart scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half as Rutgers (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, No. 11 AP) shut down Miami in the final 8:20 for a 65-45 Big East Conference victory Wednesday night. Stewart left the game just seven minutes into the first half with a deep thigh bruise just above the left knee. She returned in the second half and, after a few tentative minutes, began to assert herself with drives to the basket and long-range shots. Rutgers (9-2 overall, 2-0 Big East) built a 37-21 first-half lead, mainly from the foul line, where it hit 13 of 16. The Scarlet Knights finished 16 of 21 from the line. Miami (6-5, 0-1) made a 17-3 run at Rutgers in the second half, cutting the deficit to 40-38 with 13:43 to play. Stewart and Davalyn Cunningham scored six and five points, respectively, in a 13-5 run that gave Rutgers a 51-43 lead with 8:44 to play. Alicia Hartlaub made two free throws with 8:20 to play, but it would be the last points Miami would score as Rutgers relied on defense and the Hurricanes' poor shot selection. Usha Gilmore added 10 points for Rutgers. Sheila James scored 12 points and Hartlaub and Dalia Clarke each had 10 for Miami. | ALSO SEE Womens College Basketball Scoreboard
