TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- In the first half, Alabama couldn't hold onto the ball. In the second, the Crimson Tide couldn't shoot it.

Credit the stingy defense of No. 7 Georgia for that. Deana Nolan scored six of her 18 points in the final 1½ minutes Sunday and the Bulldogs forced 26 turnovers in a 71-62 win.

"When you look at a 40-minute game, about 10 percent of the time we had defensive breakdowns," said Georgia coach Andy Landers, who picked up his 501st win. "The other 90 percent of the time we looked pretty good defensively. We were able to force turnovers and create opportunities off those turnovers."

The Bulldogs (15-2, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) forced 18 of them in the first half. The Tide (10-4, 0-1) then were held to 33 percent shooting after the break.

"We worked hard on some new stuff offensively and we didn't execute when we got in there," Alabama coach Rick Moody said. "The bottom line is we had two good practices going into today and I hoped they would carry over."

The Bulldogs had their 14-point second-half lead cut to 65-60 on a 3-pointer by Boo Barnes with 1:10 left following Nolan's layup.

Nolan and Kelly Miller hit a pair of free throws in the final minute and Nolan capped the scoring with a layup.

Miller, just 4 of 18 from the floor, and Tawana McDonald had 15 points apiece. McDonald scored 11 in the first half.

Coco Miller had just six points and six steals.

LaNisha Cartwell led Alabama with 13 points and nine rebounds. Barnes had 12 points, while Shondra Johnson had nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Bulldogs were outrebounded 45-31 but committed just 12 turnovers.

They rebounded from an 82-65 loss to No. 15 Illinois last week.

"I'm excited about the way we played," Landers said. "We were able to win it and I'm proud."
